Position of the Moon:     for a day     for a month     for a year

Analemma of the Moon

Input (gray cells only):

1) date, month, year, and UT (h, min)

2) latitude and longitude (eastern longitude positive)

The spreadsheet is using algorithms by Jean Meeus (Astronomical Algorithms, Willmann-Bell), computing the position of the Moon on the local horizon.

Comparing the results of my spreadsheet for airless elevation with the 4 decimal places of MICA
the mean absolute error is only (0,036 ± 0,018)°.

The article "Analemmas auf anderen Planeten" by K. von Bünau and M. Kaschke (Sterne und Weltraum, 7/2022, p. 60-67) is presenting two diagrams showing the analemma of the Moon on the terrestrial horizon (declination vs. equation of time).

My spreadsheet is drawing the same analemmata seen on a local horizon (50°N, 10°E) at time intervals of 24 h 50 min 28.3 s, the culmination period of the Moon, by elevation vs. azimuth (rectangular coordinates):
